Sounds and lights of Bordeaux

Well, that was a big show. I really liked the light, thanks to whoever did it. I have put together a small video clip of my performance in Bordeaux, please enjoy it below. I must say, it was big fun to play in a big venue. Still, also very much looking forward to next weekend for a smaller and cosier setting.

Bordeaux this easter

This weekend! Me playing in Bordeaux, before Etienne de Crecy and dOP. Sold out already. Can’t wait to get on that plane.

MRZ coming back

A weekend full of dual live action! MRZ and me got together to get together on Friday and on Sunday. First audioasyl special guest series, then inteam.sunday in hive. But let me repeat my introduction to MRZ, as it is his second time with me on radio: “Experimental as they come, MRZ is next, a passionate performer with a predilection for the rough spot in the sweetness. MRZ alias Mority Wettstein is a multimedial talent: he has scored as musician, producer, programmer and visual artist. He just released his first album on Nice Try Records. Beside his solo dancefloor project MRZ, he is engaged in numerous projects especially in a experimental field. My favorite so far is the electronic orchestra compact flash (and Pro Helvetia likes it, too).”

Wahrlich and Ander on audioasyl.net

Serenity and composure in even the most point-changing of situations. The force of a well-balanced freight train guided with the ease and twinkle of a man that exactly knows where he wants his audience to wander. That is what I like about Jonas Wahrlich’s sets. All the more delighted am I to play with him on audioasyl.net on Friday, before both of us will play a set at our Saturday Night extravaganca.

Jonas is one of the persons that found the extra 12 hours each day somewhere between 3 and 4 a.m. He has been a DJ for a very long time, now playing with a four deck setup and a Native Instruments controller. He is also the owner of two labels, Eminor and Der Hut. Furthermore he is the founder of a very successful party label, PLUX, with which I have spent the odd fabulous night in Hamburg. He has now started his own live act together with Carbon from Hamburg, also being a frequent producer himself.

His music is dark and minimal, going all the way and then back, not afraid of breaking with expectations and catching right there when you need help on the dancefloor. I do like it. Very much. Friday will rock. Listen here.

Presences Electroniques in Geneva

Wow, nice company! They published the lineup of the festival I will be playing on in Geneva next month and I do like the line-up. That is going to be a great weekend.

Mastra and me coming along

After spending a wonderful weekend in Istanbul with a lot of very nice Turkish and Swiss People I am delighted to announce Mastra as my next counterpart in my series of electronic jams on audioasyl.net. Last time I saw him he played a very nice liveset for some very nice people on a boat right before Istanbul’s night skyline. Ah, those memories. This Friday we are going to jam along each other live, complimenting beats and sound. Join us live on audioasyl.net on Friday from 21-23h Zurich time.

In ’99, Mastra landed his first major gig at the Club Yellow in Zürich, which in those days was a venue in a supermarket. He impressed both the organizers and the public and soon became a popular fixture on Yellow’s agenda. That same year Mastra was booked at the legendary Tresor in Berlin…what was to be one night turned out to be five, followed by a gig at the Sunset Café on Ibiza. In January 2000 he made his first appearance in Matrix (R.I.P) and later in the Rohstofflager and at several major events such as Energy.

In 2001, the newly opened Club Q became Mastra’s second home where he performed with both local and internationally acclaimed DJ’s like Gogo, Steven S., Titto L Rocka, Carl Cox and Pascal Feos. He also became an integral part of the Via Felsenau-Ammonit Events. The same year he was invited to Gran Canaria to play with Titto and DJ Gogo. Various gigs in Brazil followed in 2002 where Stefan performed with DJ Girl.

During this time DJ Mastra was developing his skills as a producer. And his contact with Marco Repetto gave him the encouragement to deepen his knowledge of sound programming and sequencing. On ‘The Electronic Ceremony’ compilation (inzec 011) – a collaboration between EC and Inzec Records – DJ Mastra made his successful debut with the profound track ‘Funkasie’. His ties to Inzec intesified and after the mutual listening through many tracks, ideas began to form for a solo record. An agreement was reached and in February ‘04 the ‘Foyer EP’ (018) was released featuring four of Stefan’s tracks.

Slumberjack and Ander celebrating

Today is Friday already. Oh my. Time passes quickly, especially yesterday. Well, tonight there will be another audioasyl session for two, this time it’s Slumberjack from the crates and me doing a live set for you. Slumberjack aka Stefan Rudin aka Knut has played with me on the show before, it was great and we will do it again. Have a listen here for what we did last time, and tune in tonight from 21-23h on audioasyl.net.

OUT NOW: Splices EP on the crates

It is with great pleasure that I announce my first EP release, available from now on at my soundcloud site or directly at the label. About a year ago, Stefan from the crates and I were having this idea for an EP, completely based on samples from a single source, namely the recordings from my sound installation at abundzu’s unforgettable parties at the Schatzalp hotel in Davos. I spent some months cutting and arranging samples, and here they are. Four playful tracks, each one based on the recording of one of the microphones used in the installation. There definitely was some heavy filtering and effects involved, I can tell you that. But you will still get a taste of the source material when listening to the tracks. Here is a short excerpt from one of the recordings:

The installation itself can be seen in this video. But now, here they are. Download and share, they are for free. Tell me what you think of them, and send me a mix if you used them. Enjoy!

Michal Ho and more controller fun

This friday, Michal Ho and I will be syncing our gear to play a nice two-hour session on my favorite internet radio station, audioasyl.net.

Michal has been making electronic music and playing it live since the mid-nineties (then using a desktop-based MIDI sequencer and an Emu sampler) in outfits such as Mijatoho, Nocturnal Overload, Samim&Michal, Fakenoise and Subversions. While focused on the groove, his live performances can be pure improvisation within a jazz or rock band, or precise micro-djing in a techno or house venue. The live setups range from the mobile (currently using the Elektron Octatrack with external midi control) to the elaborate, populating a large table with hardware. In recent years he has been quite active on the club circuit, playing more than 30 cities in Europe, Asia and America.

Michal’s releases, collaborations and remixes have appeared on labels such as Tuning Spork, Soul Jazz, Get Physical, to name a few. New music is forthcoming on NiceTry Records, Tuning Spork and Little Big. Check out some of his live sets on mixcloud.

Idealist comes for a visit

This Friday, Idealist will join me in the studio for some live jamming, really looking forward to it! Some good old analog gear, some laptop fun plus rainbow goodness will make for a nice deep set. Tune in!

Berni aka Idealist got into contact with electronic music already at an early age, being fascinated by the sounds and possibilities. He started DJing with some of his friends and soon found himself experimenting with synthesizers and a drum computer. His live sets consists of a combination of digital workhorses and classic analog gear, which he combines into straight, yet never-repeating patterns of classic oldskool bliss, softened up by some excursions into the warm realms of dub.

During the lifetime of Zurichs legandary Dachkantine Club he got hooked on the the beat and was inspired by the strong, lively and productive Zurich electronic music scene. Now it was also time for him to seriously put some time into his own musical message. Idealist can now look back on a number of releases on labels such as schall, dreiton, deepindub and broque, the latter bringing him excellent reviews from, among others, de:bug. The next months will bring his first vinyl release on tiefenrausch. Additionally, Idealist will be starting his own small vinyl label called idealistmusic.

OUT NOW: Guess me on Nice Try Records

Yeha! A new track, silky and smooth, ready to make your night. Released on Nice Try Records, available from now on at Beatport. Every purchase helps :) There is an awesome video to go with it:

Nader // Ander // Remixed

This Friday comes another edition of my audioasyl special guest series. I am very much looking forward to play with Nader, one of Zurichs first and finest. DJing since 1994 and playing live since 1998, Nader was one of the main figures of the well remembered Dachkantine. Today, he is mastering the skill of turning Traktor Pro into a real live act by mixing and matching four decks with unprecedented skill, also incorporating live looping and recording. Nader is also producing, releasing on labels such as Neustadtmusik, BuyYouSellMe, Empro Music and Muenchen. He has played in every club of Switzerland at least once, as well as in numerous locations all over Europe. His party labels in Zurich are a guarantee for a night out full of fun, funk and fancyness. Tune in this Friday, from nine to eleven!

manuell maschinell and a birthday

Tomorrow it’s time again for another show on audioasyl.net, this time live from the birthday party of our beloved radio station itself. Yes, audioasyl.net has turned nine years some weeks ago! Listen to me and my special guest manuell maschinell from 21-23 and then join us later for the audioasyl clubnight at Friedas Büxe. As always, you will not regret it.

With me tomorrow is my friend Manuell. For almost two decades now, Manuell has been honing his musical skills with record players, mixers and less obvious instruments for music reproduction. While doing classic vinyl or tractor-based mixes as “manuell”, he also plays a more live-oriented set using controllers, drum computers and the other odd piece of equipment under the name “manuell maschinell”. In this configuration he explores what is possible with the means of modern technology, gaining distance from regular DJing and indulging in the possibilities of realtime sampling, looping, tinkering, layering and filtering, thereby creating his own plot lines or even his own music. Currently, Manuell is moderating the radio show Active Beats. Together with his guest artists he pumps out electronic music live into the ether over Winterthur and Berne as well as into the internet. Just recently he joined the the team around the legendary unicorn parties in Zurichs club Cabaret.

Tune in live tomorrow from 21 to 23 at audioasyl.net.
