This looks amazing, doesn’t it? Although, live-performance-wise, it will pretty much disctract you from any audience rocking in front of you. I like the look of this thing, and you can actually buy it, but for my requirements it’s way too little flexibility, as far as I can see. Every knob seems to have a unique function, and the layout of the whole interface does not allow for easy re-assignment of buttons and knobs, unless using a screwdriver.

seeing that it’s a modular synthesizer NOT a midi controller, as it doesn’t even send midi (yet). from what “you can see” you have no idea how flexible it is.
Yeah this is actually a modular synthesizer (digital/analog hybrid), not a midi controller. You basically connect the fundamental “building blocks” of sound together using patch cables (no screwdriver needed ;) and these are cool in that they also have the facility for patch storage/retrieval – which is kinda unique in modular land. That thing along the front is a capacitive touch surface that can control pretty much any aspect of the sound that you desire.
Check out some of the youtube vids of them in action. I love seeing this vintage Buchla in action -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCK–bs6FYY http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=hhky-bzCO6Q

My douche detector just went off. Buchlas are awesome. Wish I could afford one!!
I wish I could afford a Buchla. I’d like to use it to control my MIDI stuff while I play with my stick.
Seriously funny post! Nicely researched as it is…
